Dr. Luis C. Grau is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee treatments. He serves as the Medical Director and Chief of Adult Joint Reconstruction and has been recognized as a Top Doctor and Rising Star in the New York metro area by Castle Connolly.
Dr. Luis C. Grau was born in Havana, Cuba, and raised in Miami, Florida. Inspired by his father, who is also an orthopedic surgeon, he pursued pre-medicine at the University of Miami, where he earned an academic scholarship and joined the Honors College. Graduating with distinction, Dr. Grau was inducted into the Golden Key Honor Society. He then moved to Chicago for medical school, where he was awarded an academic scholarship from the Hispanic Center of Excellence. While in medical school, Dr. Grau was elected class president and graduated as a member of the prestigious AOA Honor Society, an honor reserved for the top students in his class.
Currently, Dr. Grau serves as the Director of Robotic Joint Replacement at Hudson Regional Hospital. His clinical expertise includes minimally invasive surgical techniques aimed at improving recovery times. He has specialized training in arthroscopy, direct anterior hip replacement, quad-sparing partial and total knee replacements, as well as robotic and computer-assisted joint replacement surgery.
After completing medical school, Dr. Grau was chosen to undertake his residency at the University of Miami’s Department of Orthopaedics, one of the nation’s leading residency programs. During his residency, he gained comprehensive experience in orthopedic trauma, joint replacement, arthroscopy, and sports medicine. He also had the opportunity to provide care for the Miami Marlins and University of Miami athletics teams.
Dr. Grau further honed his skills through a joint replacement fellowship at the renowned Rothman Institute, where he performed over 1,000 joint replacements. During this fellowship, he received advanced training in muscle-sparing approaches for hip and knee replacements, robotic surgery, outpatient procedures, and complex revision surgeries.
A committed contributor to the advancement of joint reconstruction, Dr. Grau has authored several scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has presented his research at national and international conferences. He is also a member of the editorial board for The American Journal of Orthopaedics. Dr. Grau approaches patient care with a philosophy that prioritizes simplicity and treating every patient as if they were his own family.
